Software Quality Assurance Intern

Do you want to see the software that you write impact people's day-to-day lives?  Do you want to work with a team that is as invested in your collective growth?  Do you love working with modern web technologies and data and are looking for an opportunity to expand on that passion?

Sounds like you're ready for a challenge that impacts product and meaningfully puts you on the ground level of a great business. If so, we'd like to meet you. VenueBook is a rapidly growing start-up rolling out new products and tech at all times.  Come meet a team that is here to help you grow professionally as together we build out our company!

What you will be responsible for:

  • Helping our senior QA engineer to ensure the stability and integrity of our product releases
  • Building out test plans to create reproducible steps to mitigate the risk of introducing regressions
  • Work with the support, product, and tech teams around incoming issues and managing them throughout the development and release process
  • Exploring the product and actively finding ways to break the product (and good luck!)

What we are looking for:

  • Currently enrolled in (or graduated from) a 4-year BA/BS program, in any major, at any university
  • Have authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to commit at least 10 weeks, on a full or part-time basis
  • Interest in Software Quality Assurance
  • Experience testing web applications on multiple platforms (e.g. desktop, tablet, mobile) and browsers (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari) is a plus
  • Experience performing manual regression and exploratory testing is a plus
  • Ability to grapple with the complexity of the challenge at hand, no matter how small or big it may be
  • Enjoy being in a hard working environment with a very social, convivial team

What will set you apart:

  • An eye for detail, a penchant for clear communication, and an appetite for destruction (well, trying to break things)
  • Looking at user stories from a different perspective - finding paths that the product and tech team did not think of!
  • A desire to work with test automation - this is not a requirement but is a skill we will want you to develop
  • Knowing the nuances of a modern web technology stack and understanding why certain product and technology decisions are made
  • A love of learning, growing, and becoming better every day

What’s in it for you:

  • Series A start up experience
  • Mentorship from our Senior Quality Assurance Engineer
  • Expand your testing skillsets and experience

How we get it done:

  • We use ClubHouse to track our product and development processes
  • We use Selenium (Python) and Sauce Labs for automated testing
  • We use Testlink for test plans and test cases
  • Most of our server applications are written in Python (2.7)
  • Our main framework is Django
    • We have some micro-Django / Flask apps hanging out
  • We have a lot of JavaScript
  • We love React - thank you Team Facebook!
  • We keep our data in PostgreSQL

Do not apply if:

  • You’d rather find problems reactively rather than search for them proactively
  • It seems to work after a few clicks, it should be fine
  • The users won’t find the problem, it’s okay to leave it for now!
  • Automated testing will solve everything, we don’t need people to test things at all
